How We Rate Betting Sites

Every bookmaker on this website is reviewed against the same set of criteria, in the same order. This page explains what those criteria are, how the information is gathered and checked, and how the order of operators in our lists is decided. The aim is simple: you should be able to see why a site is listed and judge for yourself whether it suits you.

Who compiles the reviews?

Reviews are compiled by Graham Whitmore, Betting Editor, who covers UK and international bookmakers for UK punters. Each review goes through the operator’s license details, bonus rules, payment options, and withdrawal limits before it is published.

Our review criteria

Each operator is assessed on the points below. A strong result in one area does not make up for a serious problem in another, such as a weak license or unclear withdrawal rules.

License and regulator

We start with who licenses the operator and whether the license can be found on the regulator’s public register. We describe licenses by tier instead of treating them as equal: a strict regulator such as the Malta Gaming Authority offers more player protection than lighter licenses. For UK residents, no international license replaces the protection of a UK Gambling Commission license, and every review says so.

Availability for UK players

Many international bookmakers list the UK as a restricted country in their terms. Each review states the operator’s position on UK residents, because an account opened from a restricted country can be closed and winnings voided.

Payouts and withdrawal limits

We look at how long withdrawals take for each payment method and what weekly or monthly caps apply. Where we cannot confirm a figure, we leave it out instead of using a generic estimate.

Bonus terms

A headline bonus says little on its own. We report the terms that decide its real value:

  • Wagering requirement and whether it applies to the bonus or to deposit plus bonus;
  • Minimum odds and accumulator rules;
  • Time limit to meet the wagering;
  • Any maximum stake while the bonus is active.

Payments and currency

We check which payment methods are available, whether you can hold a GBP balance, and what currency conversion may cost you if the account runs in another currency.

Identity checks

We note when an operator asks for identity documents and what it typically requests, so you know what to expect before your first withdrawal.

Sports and markets

We look at the depth of football markets, coverage of UK and Irish racing, and options for esports and niche sports, without claiming the best odds unless the figures support it.

Customer support and safer gambling tools

We record the support channels available and the safer gambling tools each operator offers, such as deposit limits, time-outs and self-exclusion.

How information is gathered and checked

  1. Facts are taken from the operator’s own terms and from current, independent sources.
  2. Every figure used in a review, such as bonus amounts, wagering, limits and payout times, is cross-checked against at least two current sources.
  3. Where sources disagree, we use the most recent figure closest to the operator’s own terms, or leave the point out if it cannot be confirmed.
  4. Reviews describe what the operator offers. They do not claim hands-on results that were not obtained.

Bonus terms and limits change often. Always confirm the current terms on the operator’s website before you sign up.

How the order of operators is decided

The order in our lists reflects how each operator performs across the criteria above, with license quality, UK availability and the clarity of payment and bonus terms weighing most. Each review also names the type of punter the operator suits best, because the right choice depends on what you are looking for.

How this website is funded

This website may earn a commission when readers open an account with an operator through links on the site. This does not affect the criteria above or the way operators are described, and commercial relationships do not buy a place in our lists.

Safer gambling

Our content is for adults aged 18 or over. International betting sites are not covered by GamStop, so if you have self-excluded or are trying to cut back, they are not for you. Free and confidential support is available from GamCare, BeGambleAware and Gambling Therapy. More information is on our Responsible Betting page.
